Fangirl Demographic
Definition: An often neglected section of consumers that are devoted and supportive fans of anything ranging from ideas to actors
An overlooked group when planning marketing strategies, Fangirls have proved to be quite a powerful and influential group. Nothing has quite showed their importance to mainstream media like the recent rise of #AlexfromTarget on Twitter (supposedly a marketing ploy from Breakrnation). After Breakr asked a fangirl to tweet the picture of the boyishly handsome Alex, the tweet caught the attention of other young ladies in the fandom community. Within days, #AlexfromTarget became a trending topic on Twitter and set the internet ablaze!
This has caused much speculation about the origin of the photo and why it was shared so much. Some used the hashtag because they felt he was “swoon-worthy”, while others used it solely to show their support for Alex and to help him trend on social media. Regardless of why the photo caught on in such a big way, two things are certain about the Fangirl demographic: they are unwavering in their support and their influence is strong!
Have you been neglecting this demographic with your targeted marketing? We think it’s time to reconsider your strategy!
